BIO- Dan Richard Smith
Dan Smith, brings 26 years of experience and a wealth of knowledge to Flux Energy from a technical management and business perspective. Smith has been a key leader in several start-up companies as well as a Chief Information Officer for a division of a 40 billion dollar global transportation company. Smith has experience managing, multi-million dollar, complex programs.
Smith began his career as an engineer at Hughes Radar Systems developing radar systems for fighter aircraft as well as working on the docking radar for the space shuttle. Smith later joined a start up company, ISC Aerospace, to develop communication and air to ground weapons systems. As the system integration and flight test manager, he built and managed a diverse, high performance team that had a very successful flight test record.
Smith joined UPS in 1989 and became the system integration and test manager for a global communications system, with over 65,000 users. This system was the largest cellular based communications system at the time. The program budget was over $70 million dollars. Smith later became the chief information officer for the Service Parts Logistics group at UPS. In this capacity, he helped to establish a key new business initiative within UPS, while overseeing all technology functions within the organization.
Smith has been a strategic member of several merger and acquisition teams at UPS and has experience evaluating and selecting partners and technology for acquisition and integration. Smith has extensive international experience working with customers and team members in Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, South America, Mexico and Canada.
Smith’s latest venture was creating a start-up company to manage private funds using Managed Futures. Smith attained a positive return in 2008, even as the S&P 500 lost over 38% of it’s value.
Smith graduated with honors from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California in 1985 with an MBA and from DeVry University in Phoenix in 1982 with a Bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering Technology.
